Self Reflection Three

Visual Field Trip

I accompanied my students on a visual field trip. The students were able to improve their knowledge through their learning experience on the trip. They went to the Hall of Science to display their version of the moon base. With their moon base they first worked in the classroom on what they would bring to the moon to survive. Secondly, they created their moon base, different forms of transportation, and a container for their things they would bring to the moon like water, air, electricity, and fire. Students had the opportunity to do research, expand their knowledge and learn beyond the classroom. Knowing that technology is very popular and how it’s becoming more prominent throughout the years. Certain technology tools promote learning in innovative ways from using websites like Tanker Cad, Padlet, Canva, Story Board That, Boom Writer, Smart Art, Learning Ally, Powtoon, and Newsela. One visual field trip that I feel fit that the students can benefit from to increase their way of learning is Newsela. Newsela is a content platform that gives an instructional engagement for students learning in every subject.

Through my experiences in and out of the classrooms I was able to identify how students can benefit their learning from technology tools. Reading the article named “The Digital Dilemma Making Technology a Tool for Students Success— Not a Distraction”written by Anna Homayoun, one line from the article is “The teachers were incredibly engaged and forthcoming, and they truly believed technology had made their lives — as well as the lives of their students —much easier.”(Homayoun. P. 9) It is true that different types of technology tools are able to improve teaching and learning. Through my own experiences with my career I have witnessed how technology such as visual field trips have enhanced my students learning experience and helped them better grasp difficult concepts. Another line from the article is “My goal is for students, teachers, and parents to recognize how compartmentalizing can increase productivity and decrease stress.”(Homayoun. P. 25) Students and teachers deal with stress mostly when there are no solutions or success to problems. I can agree with this quote because it with reduced anxieties it’s possible for better outcomes. Homayoun spoke of simple studying and workflows strategies that would benefit. They are use dual screens, try the Pomomdoro technique, and use technology to encourage compartmentalization.
